CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the recommended treatment by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) for mood and anxiety disorders.

CBT focuses on the thoughts that go through our minds (cognitions), the way we act (behaviour) and how this impacts how we feel emotionally and physically.

During therapy we will look at your patterns of thinking and behaviour. Some of these patterns may have developed recently due to a current stressful time in your life or have developed over many years. We will look at finding ways to break the unhelpful cycle that could be impacting on how you’re feeling.

It is a goal orientated approach and will involve some tasks between the sessions. A great benefit of CBT is that the skills and strategies learnt can be applied to many different areas, meaning it sets you up with a toolkit that you will be able to use long after therapy has finished.

Appointments are 60 minutes each.

CBT can be offered face to face or via Google Meet video. I also offer walk and talk sessions (location confirmed with clients)

Fee: £70 per session

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) was developed by Francine Shapiro and can be an alternative to CBT for working through difficult or traumatic memories from the past. It can also be helpful to deal with the memories of incidents which happened more recently in your life but keep coming back you to in the form of flashbacks or nightmares.

This type of therapy uses a form of bi-lateral stimulation to help process and reduce the impact of difficult memories.

This link provides a really good explanation and demonstration of how EMDR works.

EMDR may be used in conjunction with CBT or as a standalone treatment.

Appointments are around 60 minutes. The length of treatment would be agreed upon following the assessment.

Fee: £70

At the point of assessment we will discuss which type of therapy will be best suited to you. If following the assessment, I believe that your difficulties would be best suited to an alternative type of therapy or service, I will provide you with a recommendation for an alternative therapist or service.
